This word carries the strong traditional literary meaning for writer, and is thus rarely used in didactics discussions except as attached to other words (like étudiant-écrivain) or when discussing creative writing (in the sense, for example, used to describe encouraging young children to become writers). Writer (student): The student is a writer in the sense of “someone who produces text.” Composition theorists seem to use “writer” and “student writer” relatively interchangeably.
